2011 is half gone!

Well, apparently I survived last summer! And now here we are about to start a new one. I'm going to try to attach this to my profile on our new webpage. Let us know what you think of the new page. Craig has put a lot of work into it, and I think it looks great.

It has been a hectic week with all of the students trying to complete their courses before the end of June. I didn't realize how many tend to be like me - procrastinators!! Trust me, it's not a good habit to have. Promise yourself this is the last time you are going to wait for the last few days before you get done what you need to. It's a lot less stressful!

For those who have finished their course(s) with us, I wish you all the best in whichever direction you are heading - off to higher learning in the fall, off to a job (also higher learning, or may just harder learning), or maybe just looking forward to the summer and heading back to a new grade in the fall.

For those who haven't finished their course(s), I look forward to seeing you all summer - not just at the end of August while you are rushing to get stuff done. DON'T do it!! Regular submissions from now until you are finished.

Work hard. See you soon.

Update!

Oops - guess I haven't checked this out in a while! My current position is Computer Support. I now work 5 days a week from 9:00-5:00 pm, with an hour for lunch.

I try to support our computer tech, Craig, by handling some of the questions from students, parents and teachers. It is my responsibility to make sure all the staff computers are up-to-date and have the most current version of software installed, as well as the lab, library and test room computers.
I am working quite a bit with the Digital Document Management System (DDMS) and still do online course registrations in moodle, work a few hours a week updating the library information, keep the ticker on our website and the powerpoint that runs in our entry way updated, and try to assist the clerical staff during peak times of registration and/or reporting periods.

I keep busy, the days zoom by, and we'll see how this summer goes. First time in 20 years that I will have to work during the summer! ;-)

My contact info follows. Please don't hesitate to contact me for help with anything - if I can't help you I will find someone who can.

Intro

Hi! My name is Linda Gibos and I have worked at the Northern BC Distance Education School, off and on, for the past 22 years!! When I first started it was called the Fort St. John Secondary Correspondence School. Boy, have I seen some changes. LOL

I am married to John and we have 3 children. Janice, our oldest, is currently the Head Secretary here at NBCDES. Our son, Cody, lives and works in Calgary, and our youngest, Nancy, will be graduating in June, 2010.

My current position is a part-time position. I work 21 hrs/week, which I have been fortunate enough to be able to condense into 3 days - T/W/Th - a long weekend, every weekend! It's great.

During that time I try to: set up your Moodle account if you are taking an online course with us; troubleshoot any email problems with your learn60 email accounts, such as reset passwords, or create accounts if you don't have one yet; keep the ticker on our website up-to-date; do a weekly powerpoint presentation that can be viewed in the entrance of our building, or the library; assist our librarian with any clerical duties in the library; and assist Mr. Kaspar, our vice-principal a few hours per week. I will also be in charge of creating student folders in our new Digital Document Management System (DDMS) once a few more kinks are worked out.

In my spare time I read, am involved in activities in my church, read a bit more, chauffeur, play a little golf when it's nice out and finally, read just one more chapter! I guess that's why I enjoy the library duties attached to my job - I get to hang around the books.
